Salaams. Hi.
I’m Noor Kyle George, a 21st-century Sufi dervish. As both a wanderer and a guide, I’ve been walking the Sufi path for some time now. The farther I walk, the more I feel called to write about how the journey’s going and what I’ve learned along the Way.
Why am I writing?
Back in 2018, my now-partner and I co-founded The Nine-Sided Circle, a “no-mystery” Sufi school, through which we’ve facilitated hundreds of free, weekly online public talks. We’ve covered a broad but interrelated range of subjects: traditional Sufi stories and philosophies; ideas from G. I. Gurdjieff’s Fourth Way; developing critical thinking skills; nurturing healthy human relationships; the value of personal autonomy and conscience; using the enneagram as a process-mapping tool; and much more beyond and besides. We’ve run online classes and annual virtual retreats, and are now expanding into in-person retreats as well – our first taking place this spring in southern Sweden.
Despite all that…I have resisted putting myself out there.
Our everyday teachers often show up in the unlikeliest of disguises, don’t they? Sufis know this intimately. And we generally love to take on the stuff that scares us most—
Hence, this newsletter.
Right here is where I intend to publish essays at least once monthly as a public yet personal practice that may benefit others as well as myself. I’ll cover various things we might talk about and teach within The Nine-Sided Circle, though more explicitly from my point of view and experience, and I’ll touch on other tangential subjects besides. Plus, I just might share stories and anecdotes here that I don’t elect to share anywhere else.
